Blackpool boxer Ryan Davies will be back in the ring in his home town in September – with a huge point to prove in the wake of a shattering setback in his last bout.

The 28-year-old welterweight, who boxes under the ring name of RP Davies, will be in action at the Village Urban Resort on September 11 – his first contest since a damaging defeat at the hands of William Warburton in Rotherham in April, when he was stopped in round two.

Davies, who had won his previous three pro fights, reflected: “It has been a long and difficult process since my last fight, but I feel that night was a blip and we have established that mistakes were made in my preparation, which we have now put right. As a result, I will now be fighting at a higher weight.”

“I have a week of warm weather training planned in Greece, then it’s straight back into a full camp with my dad and the team.”

“I have already done a bit of sparring at Matthew Hatton’s gym in Stcokport, I feel good – much stronger – and I am definitely punching harder.”

“I fully intend on bouncing back and believe this setback will only make me stronger and better. It has already proved to be a great learning curve.”

“I am looking forward to getting back in the ring in Blackpool again.”

“It is always great to box at home and obviously it will be great to have as much support as possible for the latest chapter in my career.”

No opponent has yet been announced for the September promotion.
