Blackpool middleweight RP Davies will have a late change of opponent on a bill at Preston Guild Hall on Saturday night.
His scheduled rival Sam Omidi has pulled out – Davies will now box ‘ Midlander ‘Mighty’ Mike Byles, who has won eight and lost five as a professional Davies said: “Sam Omidi has pulled out for whatever reason – I am not sure – which is disappointing and obviously not ideal when I have been preparing to face him.
“I have been offered a replacement, which I have accepted – Mike Byles.”
“It is a harder fight on paper and he is a bigger, stronger lad with an 8-5 winning record, with losses against the country’s top lads.”
“This will be my hardest fight to date and a tough task – however, after being in camp for so long I would fight anyone as opposed to not fight at all so it was an easy decision really.”
“I am not one to turn down a challenge and certainly not going to shirk away from any opponent.”
“This is probably the biggest step up in my career to date in terms of fights and I know its not going to be easy but this could get the best out of me on the night,” Davies added. He continued: “Hopefully a victory here will make a statement that I am ready to step up to that next level and kickstart big things in 2017.”
“I will have 150 supporters travelling down the M55 to the Guild Hall to cheer me on and I will do everything within my power to make it a successful night, leaving everything in the ring as I always do.”
“It’s a privilege to have such a great core of support and these people who buy tickets to come and watch my fights and the local businesses who sponsor me are in this with me and that’s a great feeling.”
Davies has won 10 bouts in his career to date, losing once to William Warburton. Limited tickets are available from Davies Boxing Gym, by calling 0780962863, or by emailing info@rpdboxing.com, while further information can be found at www.rpdboxing.com
